The capital city's air quality had been improving since past few weeks. On November 30, the city had an AQI of 346, classified as "very poor," but it improved to moderate levels (178) by December 4 because of favorable winds and GRAP-IV actions. On Sunday, the AQI gradually deteriorated from 279 at 11 am to 293 by 3 pm, ultimately hitting 302 by 4 pm, in contrast to 233 the day before.
The prediction shows moderate to thick fog along with smog during the morning and evening times on Monday. IITM's early warning system indicates that air quality may reach 'poor' levels by Monday as wind speeds rise.
On Sunday, temperatures reached both maximum and minimum levels that were below normal. IMD forecasts an additional decrease of 1-2 degrees Celsius starting Tuesday. Analysts indicate that certain areas in Delhi could face cold-wave conditions as a result of recent snowfall in the Himalayas and north-westerly winds transporting cold air from the mountains.
