Baroda Cricket team has shattered the cricketing records by smashing the highest T20 total as they amassed 349/5 in their stipulated 20 overs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy fixture against Sikkim in Indore, headlined by Bhanu Pania's unbeaten 134. Baroda overtook Zimbabwe, who had hammered 344/4 earlier this year against Gambia in Nairobi.
With Baroda winning the toss and electing to bat first at the Emerald Heights International School Ground in Indore, they went hammer and tongs from the outset. Abhimanyu Singh and Shashwat Rawat hammered 53 off 17 deliveries and 43 off 16 balls, respectively. Later, Pania took control of the innings as he stayed unbeaten on 134 off 51 deliveries.
Shivalik Sharma and keeper-batter Vishnu Solanki also chipped in with blazing half-centuries to set their opposition a near-insurmountable 350 to win. Roshan proved to be the most expensive bowler for Sikkim, registering eye-watering figures of 4-0-81-2.
Sikkim on the verge of heavy defeat:
Chasing 350, Sikkim has already suffered a top-order collapse as only Robin Lobo has managed to score 20 runs among the top five batters. Baroda is also on the upper half of the table, recording five wins out of six, thereby losing only one fixture.
By contrast, Sikkim has lost all their six matches and is on the verge of losing their seventh. Baroda were the runners-up in the previous edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, losing to Punjab in a high-scoring final by 20 runs. Led by Amolpreet Singh's century, Punjab had scored 223 in their 20 overs but Baroda managed only 203 in their pursuit of a win.
