Despite cleaning efforts, the nuisance of garbage dumping near the garden at Pune Airport persists, troubling morning walkers and residents.
Leena Karia, a regular visitor, expressed her concerns to The Free Press Journal, stating, “The nuisance happens regularly. I usually take a morning walk near the garden. The administration might have taken action to clean it, but garbage is still dumped two or three times every week. Moreover, many plants have dried up."
Speaking to this newspaper, Santosh Dhoke, Managing Director of Pune Airport, said that a new tender has been passed for the upkeep of the garden.
"The previous tender for maintaining the garden premises had expired. Now, a new tender worth approximately ₹1 crore has been passed for three years to take care of the garden area. New grass has been planted, and it will grow over the next three months. New staff for the garden have also been deployed. Additionally, the dedicated department will be informed about the nuisance, and action will be taken."
Tapas Dutta, General Manager of Project Department, Pune Airport, added, "New plants have been planted, and dedicated staff are regularly deployed to take care of them. However, few commercial departments create a nuisance over there. We have sent them notices and accordingly, action will be taken."
