In a major crackdown on the illegal narcotics trade, the Narcotics Cell of Pune Police arrested four individuals on April 30 for their involvement in selling Ganja at two prominent locations in the city. The accused were apprehended after two separate operations conducted by the police's anti-narcotics squad.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Pappu Devri (32) and Chandan Kunwar (29), both from Odisha, as well as Rakesh Pawra (25) and a minor from Dhule district. The operations took place at Wakdewadi bus stand and Pune Railway Station.
In the first case, the anti-narcotics squad, while on routine patrol, received a tip-off that two youths were selling Ganja in the vicinity of Pune Railway Station. Acting swiftly on the information, the police detained the two suspects, Pappu and Chandan, and seized 30 kilograms of Ganja, valued at approximately ₹6.24 lakh.

Second case in Wakdewadi
In the second case, a similar tip-off led the narcotics police to Wakdewadi, where they arrested two individuals from Dhule district. The police seized 34 kilograms of Ganja, worth around ₹7.4 lakh, from the suspects.
Sudarshan Gaikwad, Senior Police Inspector of the Narcotics Cell, confirmed the arrests and said that further investigation is underway. He added that the police are continuing their efforts to apprehend all the individuals involved in the narcotics trade.
A case has been registered against the accused under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The police are also looking into the wider drug network that may have been operating in the region.
