Pune: Naidu Hospital STP Work To Be Fast-Tracked, Says PMC Commissioner

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will fast-track the ongoing construction of the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Naidu Hospital, announced Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram during his inspection on Thursday. The Naidu STP is the largest among the 11 planned facilities under the Mula-Mutha River Pollution Control Project.

This mega initiative is being carried out under the National River Conservation Scheme, with financial support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and supervision by the Central Government.

The Commissioner highlighted the importance of the Naidu STP due to its significant treatment capacity of 127 million litres per day (MLD). "Considering its scale and critical role in improving river water quality, we have directed the project team to accelerate the pace of work," he said.

The overall STP project across Pune aims to be completed by March 2026, and the projects are crucial for river rejuvenation efforts, as they will ensure treated sewage is discharged into the rivers.

Currently, around 92 per cent of Pune city is covered through a sewerage network that spans 2,200 kilometres, which includes six intermediate pumping stations and 10 Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs).
