Pimpri-Chinchwad: Bhakti Shakti Chowk To Nashik Highway Missing Link Work Underway

The development of the 550-metre-long road connecting Bhakti Shakti Chowk to the Nashik Highway through Triveni Nagar is making steady progress, with 50% of the work completed. This crucial project aims to improve connectivity between the Pune-Nashik Highway, Old Mumbai-Pune Highway and Nigdi Bhakti Shakti Junction, easing traffic congestion across the city. However, pending land acquisition for a key open land section measuring 250 x 75 meters remains a challenge.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is spearheading the project. The project, initially designed as a 75-metre-wide road, is currently being developed as a 37-metre-wide section. This includes two 12-metre-wide traffic lanes, a 9-metre-wide High-Capacity Mass Transit Route (HCMTR) in the centre, and 2-metre-wide paved shoulders on both sides.

As of now, 270 meters of the total 550-metre road length have been asphalted up to the DBM (Dense Bituminous Macadam) level. However, pending land acquisition for the central 250 x 75-metre open land section has created hurdles in completing the project. This gap in connectivity has also led to frequent traffic congestion at Triveni Nagar Chowk, delaying travel and impacting safety.

Key benefits for citizens

Once completed, the road will serve as a critical link connecting Dehu-Alandi Road, Talawade IT Park and Chakan MIDC. By diverting heavy vehicles from inner-city roads, it will reduce traffic congestion and enhance environmental conditions. Citizens will benefit from shorter travel times, reduced fuel consumption, and lower vehicle emissions.

Additionally, the new road will improve stormwater drainage systems, addressing waterlogging issues during monsoons. Enhanced safety measures and advanced engineering techniques will also help reduce accidents, ensuring smoother and safer commutes for citizens.

Additional Developments

The land acquisition process for key sections of the road is underway, and efforts are being made to expedite it. Once the required land is acquired, the remaining work is expected to be completed within 1.5 to 2 months.

Speaking about it, Pramod Ombhase, Chief Engineer, PCMC, said, "The Triveni Nagar road will alleviate traffic congestion and significantly improve the city’s infrastructure. Once the land acquisition issues are resolved, we aim to complete the project swiftly to bring relief to citizens."
