Attention Punekars! Latest Updates On Metro Lines From PCMC To Nigdi, Swargate To Katraj, Ramwadi To Wagholi, Chandni Chowk To Vanaz, And Khadakwasla To Kharadi

Even as the Punekars keep complaining about the traffic issues, the city saw minor wins on the front of public transport in 2024. Over 4 crore people took Pune Metro in 2024.

Now, as Punekars realize the importance of public transport, the demand for more and more lines is growing. Even the administration is planning several routes. Some of these routes are in the pipeline, while work on other routes is going on.

Line One and Two Extensions

Planned extensions include metro lines from PCMC to Nigdi, Swargate to Katraj, Ramwadi to Wagholi, Chandni Chowk to Vanaz, and Khadakwasla to Kharadi.

Line 1 Extension work update

Work is already underway on the extension of Line 1 from PCMC to Nigdi, and from Swargate to Katraj, with further momentum expected in 2025. The tendering process for the Pune Metro Line 1 extension from Swargate to Katraj is nearing completion, and a contractor will soon be appointed. Additionally, the extension work from PCMC to Nigdi is also progressing following the completion of the tendering and contractor selection.

For Line 2, final approval for extensions from Ramwadi to Wagholi, Chandni Chowk to Vanaz, and Khadakwasla to Kharadi is expected in the coming year, allowing work to begin on these routes.

DPR work underway

Meanwhile, the Maha-Metro has started preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a new proposed route from Nigdi to Muktai Chowk, passing through Wakad, Nashik Phata, and Chakan, marking another step in the city's metro network expansion.

Phase 2 details

Currently, four of the seven proposed routes for Phase 2 are awaiting approval from the central government: Vanaz to Chandani Chowk (1.2 km, two stations), Ramwadi to Wagholi/Vitthalwadi (11.63 km, 11 stations), Khadakwasla to Swargate to Hadapsar to Kharadi (25.66 km, 22 stations), and SNDT to Warje to Manikbagh (6.12 km, six stations). Two more routes—Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor (11.35 km, 10 stations) and Hadapsar to Saswad (5.57 km, four stations)—have been submitted to the Pune Municipal Corporation for clearance.
