14,000 Drivers Penalized for Traffic Violations on Highways by Pune RTO
The offenders were penalized for violations of other traffic rules including overspeeding, overload, lane cutting, drunk driving, mobile phone usage, seat belt violations, fancy number plates, unauthorized parking, no entry, overdue tax, lack of reflectors, and no fitness certificates, among others.

14,000 Drivers Penalized for Traffic Violations on Highways by Pune RTO |
The speed enforcement squad of Pune RTO has taken action against 14,058 drivers for overspeeding and driving recklessly on the highways.
Of the total fines, 6,467 were imposed on state highways, while 7,591 penalties were issued on national highways.
The offenders were penalized for violations of other traffic rules including overspeeding, overload, lane cutting, drunk driving, mobile phone usage, seat belt violations, fancy number plates, unauthorized parking, no entry, overdue tax, lack of reflectors, and no fitness certificates, among others.
Action on highway
The RTO took action against unruly drivers on highways such as the Expressway, Pune-Mumbai Pune Old Highway, Pune-Kolhapur Road, Pune-Nagar Road, and Pune-Solapur Road from January to September 2024 to curb reckless driving and prevent the increasing number of accidents.
Swapnil Bhosle, Sub Regional Transport Officer, Pune, expressed, "We have deployed squads on highways to take action against reckless drivers. Action is being taken against drivers who violate traffic rules through these teams. Our Air Velocity Team has taken action on 14,000 vehicles in the last nine months on state highways and national highways."
Drivers are urged to prioritize safety and abide by the rules to avoid penalties. "Strict instructions have been issued to drivers to follow the traffic norms. Non-compliance will attract severe penalties," Bhosle added.
The Pune RTO's proactive measures aim to reduce accidents and ensure safer travel on highways.
