Thane: The Encroachment Department of the Thane Municipal Corporation started an eviction drive in Yeoor, which comes under the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, on Saturday and bulldozed a hotel. However, several illegal constructions have been reported in the Yeoor jungle for the last several years.
The surge in illegal construction of hotels and party venues, along with the accompanying noise pollution, has led to infringements on wildlife provisions. Locals have continued to raise questions about the illegal hotels and their parties, and they have attempted to halt the noise pollution. However, no proper action has been taken by the concerned department.
The TMC officials said that one hotel named Golden Swan, which is constructed on a 40×50 feet plot, that name has been changed to Level Up Hotel.
According to the TMC officials, they received a complaint regarding unauthorized iron angles that had been constructed in the Level Up Hotel situated at Yeoor within the jurisdiction of the Vartak Nagar ward. Upon reaching the spot, they sought to verify the documents to determine whether it was legal or illegal. However, they did not produce any documents regarding the permission. The TMC has been given time to furnish the documents, but they failed to do so.
A action was taken under Encroachment Department of TMC under instruction of Chief Saurabh Rao. In a action, a team was headed by Shankar Latole, Deputy Commissioner of Encroachment Department, GG Godepure, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Tanuja Ranvide, Assistant municipal commissioner, Balchandra Ghuge, and other staff.
