Thane: Bhiwandi Woman Files FIR Against Husband For Triple Talaq, Alleges Dowry Harassment

A woman from Bhiwandi has filed a complaint with the Shantinagar Police Station against her husband for pronouncing instant talaq by verbally uttering it thrice.

The 27-year-old complainant alleged that her husband, Mohammad Asif Shaikh, assaulted her and later pronounced triple talaq. She also accused her father-in-law, mother-in-law, and seven other family members of harassing her and demanding dowry.

Asif married the woman in 2018, and the couple has no children. According to the complaint, her husband and in-laws often demanded a dowry of ₹2 lakh and a motorcycle. They allegedly subjected her to mental and physical harassment over the dowry demands, even threatening to kill her after assaulting her.

The complainant stated that she left her matrimonial home a year after the marriage due to persistent harassment but had hoped for reconciliation. Her mother attempted to mediate by visiting her husband’s house to resolve the differences, but the efforts were unsuccessful. Following this, the accused pronounced triple talaq.

The woman approached the Shantinagar Police Station on December 6 and filed an FIR against her husband and in-laws.

Vijay Pankar, the investigation officer from Shantinagar Police Station, said, "The complainant lived with her husband and in-laws for a year. Later, she left the matrimonial home due to repeated harassment. She hoped for reconciliation, but it failed. On Monday, she approached us and filed an FIR. Further investigations are underway."

The police have booked the accused under Sections 85, 115(2), 352, and 351(2) 3(5) of the BNS Act and Section 4 of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, officials said.
