Panvel Municipal Corporation’s General Body approved key proposals on healthcare, sanitation, and infrastructure while highlighting water supply issues across wards. A special meeting will address the crisis, with additional focus on monsoon preparedness, drain cleaning, and improved public services.

Panvel, April 1: The General Body Meeting of the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC), chaired by Mayor Nitin Patil, focused extensively on key civic issues including water supply, healthcare services, sanitation, and infrastructure, while clearing several important proposals.
Water supply concerns raised
During the question hour, corporators raised concerns over persistent water supply problems across all four wards. Issues related to the Nhava-Sheva water scheme and the increasing demand for water tankers were discussed in detail.
Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale provided updates, while the Mayor directed that a separate special meeting be convened to address the issue comprehensively.
Administrative and healthcare decisions
On the administrative front, the General Body approved the appointment of Dr. Sharad Vasantrao Patil as a Group-A Medical Officer.
In a significant move for healthcare services, the House cleared a proposal to appoint an agency through the tender process for refilling medical gas cylinders used in PMC’s two dialysis units, granting both financial and administrative approval.
The civic body also approved inviting Expressions of Interest (EOI) to ensure free blood supply and transfusion services for pregnant women and children under the Janani Shishu Suraksha Programme.
The initiative will involve empanelment of private, voluntary, government, and charitable blood banks.
Sanitation and monsoon preparedness
Focusing on sanitation, the General Body granted approval for repair and renovation of all public toilets under PMC ownership in Ward Committee ‘D’ for a period of two years.
Ahead of the monsoon, discussions were held on emergency preparedness and desilting of drains across the municipal area.
The proposal for undertaking drain cleaning works for one year received approval.
Other decisions and deferred proposal
Among other decisions, following the resignation of corporator Pravin Patil from the Standing Committee, corporator Paresh Thakur was appointed to the vacant post.
