'All for a song' High-handed MNS workers slap hotel manager for not playing Marathi, video goes viral
During a corporate gathering at the hotel, the guests insisted that the DJ play Marathi songs. He denied their request, and thus the matter escalated.
Mumbai: The Raj Thackeray led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s (MNS) workers allegedly slapped a hotel manager for not playing a Marathi song during a private event at the Taste of Punjab hotel in Vashi on Wednesday.
In a video shared by MNS workers on social media platforms, they were seen demanding Marathi songs be played. The manager had refused saying since the request had not come from the organisers, it would not be considered. This led to a heated argument and an MNS worker could be seen slapping the manager in the video.
Another video showed a woman on the stage asking those present at the event whether a Marathi song should be played and announcing that the DJ team would play only Hindi, Punjabi and Bollywood songs.
Mr Sagar Joshi, a local leader from MNS said that they received a complaint from a few people attending the event that the hotel DJ team refused to play Marathi songs. “We went to the hotel and requested the manager to play at least one song, but they refused,” said Joshi.
However, he claimed after the altercation the DJ played Marathi songs and also apologised.
Based on the complaint from the hotel, the APMC police registered a Non-Cognizable (NC) offence against the MNS workers.
Manik Nalawade, senior police inspector from APMC police station said that the MNS workers were not part of the private event. “Though the DJ team said that they did not have Marathi songs, the workers kept insisting,” said Nalawade, adding that this led to an altercation in which the manager ended up getting slapped.
