'NCP Doesn't Need Political Strategists,' Says Sunil Tatkare On Prashant Kishor-Sunetra Pawar Meeting

Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) state president Sunil Tatkare on Friday downplayed the significance of the recent meeting between noted election strategist and Bihar MP Prashant Kishor and NCP president Sunetra Pawar, saying it appeared to be a courtesy call and insisting that the party does not require the services of political strategists.

Says He Is Unaware Of Discussion During Meeting

Responding to reports that Kishor met Sunetra Pawar following his recent electoral success in Bihar, Tatkare said he was aware of the meeting but had no information about the discussions that took place. Reports had suggested that issues related to Tatkare's functioning within the party were raised during the interaction.

"I believe it was a formal meeting. I do not know what was discussed. We are practical politicians who work on the ground. I have travelled across Maharashtra eight times and understand every corner of the state. I have never relied on election surveys or political strategists in my life," Tatkare told reporters.

Political Experience Gives Better Understanding, Says Tatkare

The senior NCP leader said his political experience and direct interaction with people provide him with a better understanding of the electoral mood than surveys. He added that the party leadership, including the late Ajit Pawar and other senior leaders, had always focused on grassroots politics.

Tatkare also clarified that there has been no decision to appoint Prashant Kishor as an adviser to the party.

"If Prashant Kishor had been officially appointed, I would certainly have been informed. A courtesy meeting should not be interpreted as his appointment as the party's strategist," he said.

He maintained that while professional advice is always welcome, the party already has a clear understanding of the expectations of farmers, youth, entrepreneurs and the general public through its organisational network.

Reiterating the NCP's political position, Tatkare said the party continues to remain part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Referring to recent political developments after Ajit Pawar's demise, he said the party has consistently maintained its stand on remaining within the NDA.

Tatkare also defended the use of election surveys, saying there was nothing inherently wrong with them, but stressed that experienced political workers often have a more accurate assessment of the public mood through direct engagement with voters. He added that his long political career had given him confidence in understanding the state's electoral dynamics without depending on external strategists.
