Navi Mumbai Car Crash: SUV Owner Refutes Drunk Driving, Hit-And-Run Reports; Says He Was 'Attacked By Mob' After His Speeding Car Hit 3 Pedestrians In Sanpada (VIDEO)

Navi Mumbai: In a shocking incident on the eve of Diwali in Navi Mumbai's Sanpada area, a speeding SUV hit at least three people standing near the footpath. The incident took place on Friday late night and the Sanpada police have registered a cross complaint as the driver of the SUV was attacked by the mob.

The initial reports suggested that the incident was a hit and run case, while some reports said that the SUV driver hit the pedestrians as he was trying to park his vehicle and was under the influence of alcohol. However, it was clear later that the incident took place after a personal dispute.

Exclusively speaking with The Free Press Journal, the owner of the SUV, Digvijay who was driving the vehicle at the time of incident, refused reports of hit and run, and drunk driving. "There was already a dispute going. I was also attacked by the crowd on the spot. I have serious injuries and I am admitted in Sanpada's Suraj Hospital."

An officer from Sanpada police station said, "After the incident, the driver of the SUV was manhandled by other men hence we have filed a cross FIR."

Three people have sustained minor injuries and Sanpada police are further investigating the case.
