Navi Mumbai: Rabale Police Arrests Main Accused In Airoli PWD Official Robbery Case

Navi Mumbai: Rabale Police Arrests Main Accused In Airoli PWD Official Robbery Case | Representative Image

Navi Mumbai: Rabale MIDC police arrested the main accused in connection with the robbery of a retired PWD official in Airoli in July this year. The police had arrested 11 persons of the gang within 8 hours of registering the case.

The accused was identified as Amit Varik (35) and he was arrested from Virar. Recently, the Navi Mumbai police got inputs that Varik was at Chandansar of Virar. With the help of the Virar police, they took Varik into custody on October 22. Varik was the mastermind of the crime and he was on the run. 

All the accused by pretending as officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) cheated a retired PWD official in Airoli. They threatened the victim and his wife and took away cash, and gold jewellery worth Rs 34.85 lakhs as part of the investigation.

After committing the crime, they hid in Pune, Mumbai, Kalyan, Dombivali, and Thane.

About Navi Mumbai Police's Extensive Operation

According to police, on July 21, between 3.50 pm and 5 pm, six people pretending to be officials from ACB reached the complainant and victim, Kantilal Dadu Yadav’s home at Sairaj Apartment, at Sector 6, in Airoli. They informed the retired official that they would conduct a search of the house. 

Pretending to be ACB officials, they conducted a raid at the house of the retired official and took cash and various gold ornaments, 2 bangles, watches and other items worth Rs 34,85,000. They also assaulted and threatened to kill him and his wife.

On July 24, the senior citizen approached the Rabale MIDC and registered a case of cheating. Rabale MIDC police registered a case under sections 395, 420, 170, 506 (2), and 34 of IPC and formed multiple teams

CCTV cameras were checked thoroughly and with technical analysis, they found that they were hidden in Pune, Mumbai, Kalyan, Dombivali and Thane. Different teams rushed to these places and caught them.

Police claimed that they solved the case within 8 hours after registering and recovered Rs 12.72 lakh cash, a car worth Rs 6 lakh and other stolen items.
