Navi Mumbai: Morbe Dam Storage Reaches 86.48 Per Cent, 10 Pc Water Cut To Continue Until Reservoir Fills

Navi Mumbai, August 6, 2026: The water level in Morbe Dam, the primary source of drinking water for Navi Mumbai and several CIDCO nodes, has climbed to 86.48 per cent following steady monsoon rainfall, bringing significant relief after the severe water crisis witnessed earlier this year.

Despite the improved storage, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and CIDCO have decided to continue the existing 10 per cent water cut until the reservoir reaches full capacity.

According to the latest data released on Thursday, the Morbe Dam catchment received 16.40 mm of rainfall during the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative rainfall since June 1 to 2,687.20 mm.

The reservoir's water level has now reached 85.27 metres against its full reservoir level of 88 metres, with total storage standing at 86.48 per cent.

Storage Levels Improve

The sharp rise in storage marks a remarkable recovery from the pre-monsoon period, when the usable water stock had dropped to critically low levels, forcing NMMC and CIDCO to impose a 10 per cent water supply cut across their respective jurisdictions from late May.

While the recent rainfall has substantially improved the city's water reserves, authorities said the restrictions would remain in force as a precautionary measure to ensure adequate drinking water availability throughout the year. Morbe Dam typically requires around 3,500 to 3,800 mm of rainfall in its catchment area to fill completely and overflow.

Supply Issues Persist

Water supply concerns continue to persist in parts of Kharghar, where residents of higher-elevation sectors have complained of inadequate supply.

The node has a daily demand of around 75 MLD but receives about 72 MLD from CIDCO. The diversion of water from Kharghar's main pipeline to Taloja has further affected supply in Sectors 35 to 40 and the Swapnapurti housing project.

"If the monsoon continues to perform well and Morbe Dam reaches its full storage capacity, the administration will review the existing 10 per cent water cut. Until then, the restrictions will continue to ensure sustainable water management and adequate reserves for the months ahead," an NMMC official said.
