Mumbai Weather Update: Light Rain Turns Heavy After Nightfall; IMD Issues Yellow Alert For City, Orange Alert For Thane
While parts of Thane experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, Mumbai remained mostly dry, with only light showers in some areas until Saturday evening. However, heavy rain began in the island city later that night, and forecasts predict heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places until 8:30 am on Sunday.

Mumbai: While parts of Thane experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, Mumbai remained mostly dry, with only light showers in some areas until Saturday evening.
However, heavy rain began in the island city later that night, and forecasts predict heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places until 8:30 am on Sunday. An orange alert remains in effect for Thane, while a yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai on Sunday.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai on Saturday, stating that current weather conditions remain favourable for such activity. However, according to BMC data, between 8 am and 7 pm, the island city recorded only 2.02 mm of rainfall, followed by 1.04 mm in the eastern suburbs and 0.43 mm in the western suburbs.
Rainfall, however, intensified after 8 pm, with heavy showers reported in South Mumbai, as well as in Powai, Bhandup, and Mulund in the eastern suburbs, and in several areas across the western suburbs.

Fortunately, no untoward incidents were reported in the city till late night, confirmed the BMC's Disaster Management Cell. An orange alert remains in place for Thane on Sunday, June 15, followed by a yellow alert on June 16. Mumbai will be under a yellow alert on both June 15 and 16. Meanwhile, Raigad has been issued a red alert for June 15, and an orange alert for June 16 and 17.
