Mumbai: Two window cleaners die after hydraulic lift trolley falls from 16th floor of Avighna Tower in Worli
The victims were immediately rushed to the nearby Nair Hospital but they were declared brought dead by the doctors.
In an unfortunate incident, two labourers hailing from Mau Town in Uttar Pradesh died while cleaning the glass window of the 19-story Avighna Tower building located in the Prem Nagar area of Worli in Mumbai.
According to Worli police, who are probing the case, the incident happened between 4:10 to 4:20 when the labour3rs were cleaning the glass windows of the 16th floor.
"The trolley they were in unexpectedly, all the way from 16th floor, landed on the ground. The trolley was attached to the terrace of the building, however it couldn't take the weight of it," said senior police inspector Anil Koli while talking to FPJ.
Preliminary probe by the police reveal that the 'safety hook' that should have worn by the workers while inside the trolley was not present.
The lift trolley had landed on the ground upside down. "Since it was upside down it means that they trolley must have come down at high speed, which caused the death," said Koli. The locals in the vicinity claims to have heard a loud thud during the incident.
The two labourers are identified as Noor Alam, 27, and Jameel Ahmed, 30, who started the cleaning work on Monday itself.
Noor Alam's brother, identity protected, reached the spot at around 6:45 pm after the police alerted him. "I am a worker just like my brother - in a construction site around the Mulund area. I was told about my brother's death by the police. I have informed my family in my hometown," the brother told this newspaper.
Police Search for Contractor
Both the labourers were taken to Nair Hospital, however they were declared dead by the hospital authorities before arrival.
Police sources reveal that the search for the contractor has been initiated. "It is known that the assigned contractor (by the tower authorities) gave the work to another contractor, who was conducting this work. All the operating devices, machines were sourced by the second contractor - who will be held accountable in the case," said a police source.
As of now, a case of Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been registered in the case by the police. The probability of a FIR will be decided after the postmortem report and technical investigation report from experts comes, confirmed the police. Further investigation in the case is underway.
