The Covid-19 cases have dropped by 30 per cent in the last 24 hours across Mumbai and Maharashtra. The city has reported 676 new cases on Monday compared to 961 cases which were recorded on June 5, increasing the total count to 10,70,534 cases so far.

Meanwhile, zero Covid deaths have been reported in the city, taking the total death toll to 19,569.

However, the positivity rate still remains at 10 per cent compared to 11 per cent which was just a day before.

Maharashtra also reported 1,036 new infections on Monday, pushing its tally to 78,94,233 cases with 1,47,866 fatalities till now.

Officials have attributed this drop to the less number of Covid testing due to the weekend. However, health experts said these numbers are of incidental hospitalisation as people are getting admitted for other illnesses and are also being tested for covid.

Gautam Khanna, CEO, of PD Hinduja Hospital, said they had nine covid cases and all of them are senior citizens with mild symptoms. However, they have seen a surge in covid-19 admissions.

“We had very few cases until now but for the last few days numbers have increased and we have nine patients now, of which only four are in ICU,” he said.
