Mumbai: heavy rainfall lashed parts of Mumbai on Sunday morning, bringing with it waterlogging concerns and disrupting early traffic in several areas. A high tide was also observed at the iconic Haji Ali Dargah around 9 am, drawing attention to the rising sea levels amid the ongoing monsoon spell.

Visuals from Santacruz showed intense rainfall, with roads quickly getting drenched and visibility slightly affected. The video, which surfaced online, captured the city braving yet another wet morning as the monsoon continues to remain active over Mumbai.

IMD Issues Flash Flood Alert For City And Konkan

Mumbai woke up to another rain-drenched Sunday, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a flash flood alert for the Konkan region, including Mumbai and its suburbs. The alert extends to Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and parts of Goa, all of which are facing a heightened risk of flooding in low-lying areas due to continuous heavy rainfall.

In its latest advisory, the IMD warned of moderate to high flash flood risk in several watersheds and neighbourhoods until 11:30 AM on Sunday. The warning is based on saturated soil conditions and the ongoing intensity of the rainfall. Officials cautioned that surface runoff and waterlogging could disrupt daily life, urging citizens to stay alert and take necessary precautions.

Rainfall over the last 24 hours has been relentless. Between 8 AM Saturday and 8 AM Sunday, Mumbai recorded 92.81 mm of rain. The western suburbs bore the brunt, receiving 103.98 mm, while the eastern suburbs recorded 78.15 mm. On Saturday alone, Santacruz registered a significant 24 cm, while Colaba saw 8 cm of rainfall.

The IMD has further forecast heavy to very heavy showers for Mumbai and its suburbs, accompanied by gusty winds ranging from 40–50 kmph, potentially peaking at 60 kmph in certain areas. More intense spells are expected across the Konkan region, Goa, and the Ghats of Madhya Maharashtra from August 16 to 19, while widespread rainfall is likely to continue across Maharashtra, Goa, and Gujarat through the coming week.
