The Bandra police arrested an individual for allegedly attempting to fraudulently become the authorised signatory of late NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) leader Baba Siddique’s mobile number. The accused has been identified as Vivek Sabharwal, 48. He works as a loan agent and resides in Burari, Delhi. The police arrested him in Delhi on Sunday and brought him to Mumbai. The court has remanded him in police custody until July 11.
A police officer stated, "The investigation revealed that he did not deliberately target Baba Siddique's number. He randomly attempted to take over the mobile number. He has committed similar crimes in the past, and around five cases have been registered against him." Two cases have already been registered against him in Mumbai one pending at Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, Esplanade and another at Borivali Court. The accused was granted bail in the Borivali case.
The accused is alleged to have tried to defraud Baba Siddique’s family by activating his mobile number on another SIM card. Baba Siddique's family has kept the number active in his memory. However, Sabarwal allegedly tried to fraudulently take control of the mobile number’s authority. The Bandra police registered an FIR against an unidentified person for allegedly attempting to fraudulently become the authorised signatory of Baba Siddique’s mobile number. The number is linked to the family’s real estate and business ventures. Siddique’s daughter, Dr Arshia Siddique, 35, filed a complaint with the police, following which the case was registered on June 26.
