Mumbai News: Gold Artisan Nabbed In West Bengal For Fleeing With ₹19.5 Lakh Jewellery From City Shop | Representative Image

Mumbai: The V.P. Marg Police have arrested a 33-year-old gold artisan from East Midnapore, West Bengal, for allegedly committing a breach of trust and defrauding his employer by fleeing with gold and diamond jewellery worth ₹19.5 lakh.

The complainant, Anupam Tapankumar Pal (42), had employed the accused, Bishu Ramkrishna Mangal, to work at his jewellery shop in Mumbai. On June 1, between 7 pm and 8 pm, Pal entrusted Mangal with 272 grams of 14-carat gold jewellery and diamond polki for polishing and diamond setting. Instead, Mangal absconded with the ornaments.

Based on Pal’s complaint, an FIR was registered under Section 316(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). During the investigation, police sub-inspector Watsar and his team conducted a technical analysis and tracked the accused to Contai in East Midnapore, West Bengal.

After a two-day operation, Mangal was arrested, and stolen property valued at approximately ₹14 lakh was recovered. This included 105 grams of gold ornaments, a necklace weighing 139 grams, and 28 diamond/polki stones.

The accused was remanded to police custody until July 17 and has since been sent to judicial custody. The investigation is ongoing to recover the remaining jewellery and verify if any accomplices were involved.
