Mumbai: Chandivli MLA Dilip Mama Lande of the Shiv Sena took a pledge on the occasion of World Environment Day on Thursday, while an illegal flex hoarding with his picture adorned his constituency.
In March-end, the Bombay High Court (HC) directed the State Advocate General to submit a detailed action plan to ensure stricter enforcement against illegal hoardings across Maharashtra. The court emphasised that despite multiple orders over the years, the problem persists due to lack of “effective implementation”.
The HC has been monitoring the issue for over 13 years. The court has observed that a detailed order was passed in 2016 by a bench led by Justice Abhay Oka, who recently retired as a Supreme Court judge, but it is not being implemented.
The BMC, meanwhile has introduced a QR code system on authorised hoardings, allowing easy identification of illegal banners. Ward officers are instructed to remove hoardings without a QR code, which is clearly missing from Lande’s flex banner.
