Mumbai: Man attempts to break BEST bus windshield after argument with driver; watch video

A BEST bus became a soft target for a 26-year-old man who allegedly vandalised it just because he was disallowed from boarding. On Thursday morning, at around 9.45am an incident occurred wherein the window pane of a BEST bus was smashed using a hard solid object.

According to officials from Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking, a man allegedly vandalised a BEST bus after he was not permitted to board the crowded vehicle in the western suburb of Malad. A video of the incident, went viral on social media.

"The bus was waiting at a signal when a man, who was allegedly denied entry into the BEST bus route number 345 because it was already crowded and full, used a brick or stone to damage the front window pane of the bus," said a BEST official.

This incident took place at Mith Chowky in Malad. The officers from Bangur Nagar police station claimed that Mervil Anthony Robero was standing at the bus stop and as a BEST bus arrived, he tried to board it, but was stopped by the driver.

Robero lost his cool and stood in front of the bus and started verbally abusing the driver. He allegedly picked up a brick from the road and hurled it on the windscreen of the vehicle and broke it, said the police officer.

One of the passengers onboard the bus shot a video of the attack, which was later widely circulated and went viral on social media. The accused was caught by a few locals in the area and was handed over to the police.

"Based on a complaint lodged by bus driver Shankar Bheema More, a case under section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant) and other relevant provisions of the IPC has been registered against the accused,'' saif Senior Inspector Pramod Tawade of Bangur Nagar police station.
