Mumbai high-rise fire: One more person dies; toll rises to 7

Manish Singh, one of the 30 victims of the fire that ravaged Sachinam Heights building at Tardeo, died on Monday after being admitted in a critical condition at Nair hospital.

Out of the 30 patients admitted in Bhatia, Nair and Kasturba hospitals respectively, seven have died, seven are discharged and 16 are still admitted and undergoing medication. Doctors said eight patients admitted to Bhatia Hospital continue to be in critical condition. Four of these are women including one who suffered 50 per cent burns.

The 20-storey building which caught fire on its 19th and 20th floor has been entirely evacuated due to electricity cut. on Monday, the residents of the building were seen packing their immediate necessities and leaving for a relative or a friend’s place to stay on a temporary basis.

Sunil Kadam, a resident of the building said that the condition of all the residents and the relatives of the victims is bad especially with no electricity and water in the building. “We had to evacuate the building and find some other place to live for a few days. This incident has really affected us badly and we are barely able get back to our normal lives.”

The management of the society held a meeting on Monday to discuss the incident and how to avoid such future mishaps.
