Mumbai: Goregaon Police Register FIR Over Bomb Threat To Deputy CM Eknath Shinde’s Vehicle; Suspect Detained

Mumbai: The Goregaon Police have registered an FIR in connection with a bomb threat to blow up Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s vehicle on Thursday morning. The threat was received via email at Goregaon and J.J. Marg police stations, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), and Mantralaya's official email ID. The Goregaon Police have brought a suspect to the police station, and the investigation is ongoing, as confirmed by a police officer.

Given the involvement of a high-profile political figure, the police acted swiftly. The Crime Branch’s parallel investigation led to the identification and arrest of the suspect. Upon interrogation, the accused admitted to sending the threatening email. However, authorities are now probing the exact location from where the email was sent and any possible motives behind the act. Further investigation is underway.

According to the police, following the receipt of the threat email, the police immediately informed the Special Branch. With assistance from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), multiple vehicles in the Minister's convoy were thoroughly checked, but nothing suspicious was found. Subsequently, an FIR was lodged under Sections 351(3), 351(4) (criminal intimidation), and 353(2) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.

After receiving the email today, all investigative agencies were alerted. The police immediately initiated an investigation, with the Mumbai Police and Crime Branch leading the probe. Authorities are currently tracking the IP address of the email ID from which the threat was sent.

A month ago, Deputy Chief Minister Shinde received a similar threat, at which time the police arrested a 27-year-old man. Along with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CM Eknath Shinde and Jitendra Pawar were in Delhi to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister of Delhi.
