Mumbai Fire Brigade To Get Advanced Training Center In Kandivali To Boost Disaster Management Skills

The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) is set to get a advanced training center in Kandivali, helping it to enhance its disaster management capabilities. The announcement was made on Monday marking the National Fire Services Day.

Mumbai: The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) is set to get a advanced training center in Kandivali, helping it to enhance its disaster management capabilities. The announcement was made on Monday marking the National Fire Services Day.

MFB is largest fire brigade in the state and undertakes humongous task of prevention and management of disasters like fires, building collapses and others tasks in the metropolis.

A senior MFB officer said that the advanced training centre will be in the premises of Kandivali fire station, which is a huge plot. "It will have state of art equipment's for practical training for firefighters. This will be first of its kind training centre in India, where live training will be held to equip the fighters with advance training."

The officer added that the ground breaking ceremony is expected to be held later this year and simulation centre (a facility designed to replicate real-world clinical environments for training professionals) will be installed, and the training centre is expected to begin in eight months.

On Monday, an event was organised MFB's Byculla fire station and head office, where respects were paid for the bravery and sacrifice of firefighters. Additional Municipal Commissioner Amit Saini, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Prashant Gaikwad, Maharashtra Fire Services Director Santosh Warik and MFB's Chief Fire Officer Ravindra Ambulgekar were present.

On April 14, 1944, massive fire was spread after several explosion in an ammunition filled vessel near Bombay Port. The intensity of the disaster shook the coastal city and as much as 66 firemen from Mumbai Fire Brigade lost their lives on the line of duty. Since then, April 14 is observed as National Fire Services Day.
