Mumbai Devotees Donates ₹11 Crore To Temple Tirupati Balaji Trust For Free Food Scheme

Mumbai devotee donates Rs. 11 crore to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Sri Venkateswara Annaprasadam Trust for a free food scheme for pilgrims.

Mumbai: The Sri Venkateswara Annaprasadam Trust of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams received a donation of Rs 11 crore from devotees residing in Mumbai. Donations from all over the world support this trust's massive free food program.

The foundation estimates that feeding the devotees from breakfast to dinner costs about Rs 38 lakh per day. Three meals a day are provided by the trust. Venkaiah Chowdary, the additional executive officer of TTD in Tirumala, received the donation from Tushar Kumar of the Prasid Uno Family Trust.

"A devotee, Tushar Kumar of the Mumbai-based Prasid Uno Family Trust has made a generous donation of Rs 11 crore to the Sri Venkateswara Annaprasadam Trust on Monday," said a press release from the temple body.

The Venkateswara Nithya Annadanam Endowment Scheme was started in 1985 by former Chief Minister N T Rama Rao to give 2,000 pilgrims free food every day.

Later, in 1994, the scheme changed its name to Sri Venkateswara Nithya Annadanam Trust, which became an independent trust. In 2014, it was renamed Sri Venkateswara Annaprasadam Trust.

The trust, which receives donations from all around the world, puts money in nationalized banks and uses the interest to cover expenses.

Nearly 14 tons of rice and 10,000 litres of milk are prepared everyday in the massive kitchens of TTD, the official guardian of the Sri Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati. Drinks and three meals a day are provided to thousands of enthusiasts.

The temple is located in the Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh, India's Tiruchanur. The temple is 22 kilometres from Tirupati railway station, which is the closest station to Tirupati Balaji. Visitors come from all over the world. It is also convenient to go there by flight.
