The incident occurred at the Basanti Bhuvan building behind Balbharti School. The Kandivali police have apprehended the accused.
According to officials, both senior citizens were neighbours and often argued over water supply issues. The deceased has been identified as Ranjan Sanghani, and the accused is Ashok Keswani, a retired individual.
On Monday around 3:30 p.m., Sanghani and Keswani got into an argument over construction materials placed on the common staircase. Sanghani’s house was undergoing repairs, and some household items had been kept outside her flat. Keswani objected, leading to a heated altercation.
Police said the two had clashed in the past over water-related issues, which were brought up again during the altercation. The argument escalated, and in a fit of rage, Keswani allegedly punched Sanghani before grabbing a kitchen knife and stabbing her in the chest. She also sustained injuries on her hands while trying to defend herself. Neighbours rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
