The Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP) is set to open a 550-meter vehicular underpass (VuP) next month, easing traffic for motorists traveling from Dadar and Prabhadevi towards the coastal road. Additionally, a 7.5 km Marine-Drive-like promenade, featuring jogging tracks, seating areas, and green spaces, will open by May 2025, stretching from Priyadarshini Park to Worli. With 20 pedestrian underpasses for easy access, the promenade will become a vibrant public space, enhancing both mobility and the city’s coastal experience.
The ambitious 10.58 kms Coastal road, spanning from Marine Drive to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL), is now open, ensuring smooth traffic flow. Currently, Tata Sons Limited, through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds, is beautifying the median along a 4.35 km stretch from Priyadarshini Park to Worli. Additionally, five firms have expressed interest in developing 70 hectares of open space along the coastal road, with an estimated Rs. 400 crore CSR investment. "Currently we are reviewing these firms, after which a final decision will be made," said a senior civic official.

As part of the ongoing MCRP, a 7.5 km-long, Marine Drive-like promenade, spanning 11 hectares, is also under development. "The 20-meter-wide promenade, being built along the coastline next to the southbound side of the coastal road from Priyadarshini Park to Worli, will offer beautiful views of the Arabian Sea. It will feature jogging tracks, seating areas, and green spaces. To ensure easy access, 20 pedestrian underpasses (PuPs) will connect the promenade to the landside. These underpasses are in the final stages of construction and will be opened alongside the completion of the landscaping work," added another official.
