Mumbai: Vikas Sharad Chandra Pandit, a resident of Borivali, has been selected as one of the 800 distinguished guests nationwide to attend the 2025 Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path, New Delhi. Pandit has been recognized for adopting a 3 kW rooftop solar system under the PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, a scheme launched by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
Pandit's journey towards energy independence and zero electricity bills has been exemplary, and his story is a testament to India's commitment to renewable energy goals. His rooftop solar system, installed in June 2024 through Tata Power Mumbai Distribution, has not only enabled him to achieve energy independence but also ensured zero electricity bills.
Tata Power Mumbai Distribution has implemented the PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana rigorously across Mumbai. Over 40 residential buildings and housing societies have already joined the initiative, contributing to a cumulative rooftop solar capacity of approximately 24 MW.
Pandit stated, "My 2.7 kW rooftop solar system facilitated by Tata Power has been extremely beneficial for my family. In just six months, it has saved ₹24,000 for us and produces approximately 25 units of clean energy daily. I am grateful to Tata Power and MNRE for recognizing my effort and inviting us to the Republic Day celebrations."
