Mumbai: The southern arm of the T-shaped flyover in Mith Chowky at Malad West is set to open without an inaugural ceremony. Mumbai North MP Piyush Goyal will inspect the completion during his visit today (Jan 11) but, to avoid any political tussle, the BMC will throw it open on Jan 14, the date announced earlier by Goyal.
About The Inauguration
The first phase of the flyover was inaugurated by Goyal in October 2024. However, this event triggered a political scuffle between the members of the Congress and the BJP as both parties laid claim to the project.
The flyover is designed with two main arms to ease traffic flow. The eastern arm, which has been opened to traffic, originates near the Girdhar Park Bridge, passing over the Malad Creek and extending above the traffic junction.

The west side landing is near St. Joseph’s School. It caters to traffic towards Malad railway station, the Western Express Highway, and from Kandivali, Malvani, and Madh Island. The southbound arm will smoothen traffic towards Infinity Mall, Andheri, Juhu, and Bandra, enhancing accessibility to key locations.
The work is in its final stages with painting of road signage, setting up traffic beams and lights, which will be completed in the next two to three days.
