Maharashtra rains: Over 3,500 people moved to safety, NDRF deployed, says CM Eknath Shinde

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde reviewed the rain situation on Tuesday and said over 3,500 people had been shifted to safer places from flood-prone and vulnerable spots across the state, where several districts, including Mumbai, experienced downpour.

Heavy rainfall activity was noticed throughout Maharashtra today, including Konkan, Western Maharashtra, Vidharba region. Rivers overflew at Amravati, Ratnagiri, and Kolhapur region. Local administration issued alerts to citizens. The state government has deployed 11 teams of NDRF and SDRF to different locations in Maharashtra and kept 9 teams of NDRF and 4 teams of SDRF at base stations. Chief minister Eknath Shinde is monitoring Disaster Management and help work. After observing the increase in the water level of various rivers arrangements are being made at local levels.

In the Amravati district, a flood-like situation has been seen in many Talukas including Chandur Bazar and the Morshi. The water of the Pingalai river entered villages. People are being Shifted to safer areas.

Till Tuesday afternoon, more than 100 mm of rainfall was noticed in the Palghar district. Rainfall is increasing in Palghar and MET department has warned of heavy downpours in the district for the next few days.

In the Ratnagiri district, two rivers have crossed the warning level. District administration is on alert.

Because of Heavy rainfall in Kolhapur, the water level of the Panchganga river rose up to 7-8 feet. Rahul Rakhvaar, Collector Kolhapur has asked citizens and the administration to be alert. Haathkanangle, Shirul, Karvir, and Ichalkaranji Talukas are on alert.

Pune IMD tweeted information about the heavy rainfall alert for Pune, Nashik ghaat, Satara, Sangali and Kolhapur area for the next four days.

Chief minister Eknath Shinde spoke to all district collectors and issued directions to them.
