Maharashtra News: Kolad Police Give 15-Day Ultimatum To Cattle Owners To Clear Strays Or Face Action

The Kolad Police Station, has issued a firm directive to tackle the issue of stray cattle in the area. During a recently held meeting police made it clear that all farmers and cattle owners will be given a grace period of 15 days to take their cattle back home and ensure they are not left to roam freely in public places.

Police warned that if the owners fail to comply within the stipulated 15-day period, the stray cattle will be deemed ownerless and necessary action will be taken to shift them to a cowshed (Goshala).
On June 2, the Varsagaon Gram Panchayat issued a public announcement urging all farmers and livestock owners within its jurisdiction to ensure that their cattle, buffaloes, and other domestic animals are securely tied and not left to wander freely. The Panchayat warned that stray cattle have frequently caused accidents on the highway, endangering both the animals and vehicle drivers.

Considering the limited capacity of the Goshala to accommodate a large number of animals, the police have also decided to allow interested farmers, who are willing to take responsibility, to adopt and care for these stray cattle after due legal process.
The Sahyadri Wildlife Conservation Social Organization (SVRSS )team has offered to assist the authorities in rounding up the stray cattle if required. The police have urged all cattle owners to take this notice seriously and remove their cattle within the given time frame to avoid any legal action.
