Maharashtra: Land Acquired For MahaMumbai SEZ Remains Unused For 15 Years, Farmers Seek Its Return
The land from 25 villages in Raigad was acquired by Reliance for the SEZ project, but none of the commitments made to the farmers were honoured, and the land remains unused.

Mumbai: Farmers in Raigad district have demanded the return of their land, which was acquired by Reliance Company for the MahaMumbai SEZ but has remained unused for 15 years. Revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has directed the district collector to compile a detailed factual report and proposal for the government. If necessary, the issue will be discussed with Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis, and a policy decision will be made in the cabinet meeting.

The matter was raised in the legislative assembly, leading to a meeting at Mantralaya, chaired by minister Bawankule. The meeting was attended by MLA Ravi Patil, MP Dhairyasheel Patil, and affected farmers, who urged the government to take immediate action.

Bawankule stated that it is essential to verify whether the project has been de-notified. If so, a copy of the de-notification should be obtained. He instructed the district collector to compile a comprehensive report detailing the status of the acquired land, the expectations of affected farmers, and relevant legal provisions. Based on this, a proposal will be submitted to assess the feasibility of returning the land to the farmers. During the meeting, local representatives and the collector highlighted the challenges faced by the farmers, stressing the urgent need for a resolution.
