Maharashtra IT Minister Ashish Shelar To Lead Revamped Cabinet Panel On Case Withdrawals

Mumbai: The Mahayuti government has reconstituted the cabinet subcommittee tasked with deciding on the withdrawal of cases against political party leaders and workers. The committee, headed by IT minister Ashish Shelar, includes two members each from the BJP, the Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

The committee evaluates cases filed against politicians by the police during agitations for public causes and recommends their withdrawal. According to a government resolution (GR) issued on Thursday, the panel provides suggestions and recommendations to government pleaders regarding specific cases.

Apart from Shelar, the BJP is represented by protocol minister Jaikumar Rawal, while the Shiv Sena's members include industries minister Uday Samant and tourism minister Shambhuraj Desai. The NCP's delegation comprises sports minister Dattatraya Bharne and relief and rehabilitation minister Makrand Patil.

The previous committee, formed in June 2023, had three members each from the BJP and the Shiv Sena. However, the NCP (led by Ajit Pawar), which joined the Mahayuti alliance in July 2023, was not included at the time.
