The Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti's new state executive committee was announced at a state-level meeting recently. Madhav Bavge was elected as the president, and Sanjay Bansode was elected as the state working president.
The meeting saw the presence of 460 activists from across the state. The MANS was founded by Dr Narendra Dabholkar who was killed in Pune in August 2013 by right-wing extremists.
The Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice, other Inhuman and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013, originally drafted by anti-superstition activist Dabholkar. The law criminalises practices related to black magic, human sacrifices, use of magic remedies to cure ailments and other such acts which may exploit people's superstitions.
