Mumbai: In a significant milestone for India’s media and entertainment education sector, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis jointly inaugurated the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) campus at the NFDC Films Division Complex on Pedder Road, Mumbai, on Friday.

As per an official release, the dignitaries also unveiled the IICT’s official logo and announced that academic programs will commence from September this year, as reported by the news agency ANI.

The event was also attended by Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, and Ashish Shelar, Maharashtra’s Minister of Cultural Affairs.

The newly launched IICT campus boasts world-class facilities, including fully equipped classrooms, cutting-edge media labs, post-production suites, and specialised zones for training in animation, VFX, and extended reality (XR). Designed to meet global benchmarks, the institute offers a state-of-the-art educational space that seamlessly merges technology with creative innovation, as reported.

Around 300 students are expected to graduate from the inaugural academic year at the NFDC IICT campus. Additionally, a second IICT campus is slated to be completed within two years at Film City in Goregaon.

According to a report, Speaking at the ceremony, Ashwini Vaishnaw stated, “In this creative world, technology has become an integral part, and it is important that we empower people who want to be part of the creator economy. I am glad that in such a short span, we have inaugurated the first NFDC IICT campus in Mumbai. I have personally gone through the architectural presentations in detail for the campus in Film City, Goregaon, and I assure you it is going to be one of the finest campuses."

IICT is set to offer advanced courses in integrated media post-production, animation, VFX, XR, and various other emerging technologies, bringing together top academic knowledge, industry collaboration, and premier infrastructure under one roof.

The launch of IICT represents a major step in formalising India’s growing AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality) sector, which is anticipated to play a crucial role in shaping the global digital economy.
