Former MBMC Commissioner Sanjay Katkar Appointed MD Of Maharashtra Information Technology Corporation Ltd

Former commissioner of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC)- Sanjay Katkar has been appointed as the managing director of the Maharashtra Information Technology Corporation Ltd (MahaIT). The orders were issued by additional chief secretary-V. Radha on Tuesday.

An IAS officer (2014 batch), Katkar had successfully served as the commissioner and administrator of the MBMC for 19 months before he was transferred on 6, March, 2025 while on a month-long training. An independent corporation owned by the state government, the main responsibilities of MahaIT include -executing state projects related to information technology and providing expert technical manpower resources to various departments of the government.  

Katkar’s appointment assumes significance as the IT minister-Ashish Shellar had recently emphasised the importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in shaping the future of industries, businesses and governance and recognizing its transformative potential while directing his department to draft the state’s first independent AI policy.

Having a rich experience of serving various departments, Katkar has previously held important postings including -joint managing director of CIDCO in Navi Mumbai and deputy commissioner (revenue) of Nashik division.
