Mumbai: The language war in Maharashtra has once again taken centre stage over not speaking Marathi by non-Maharashtrians. A video of a customer, forcing a worker at a small farsan shop to speak Marathi is making rounds on the internet. The incident, took place on Sunday afternoon in Mumbai's Ghatkopar area.
In the now viral video, the man asks the worker to learn Marathi, while he is packing the snacks for him. Responding to which, he says, "UP ka hoon." The man recording the video, then asks him to either learn Marathi or close his shop.
The man then threatens the worker that he will close his shop if he does not speak Marathi from tomorrow. The worker responded saying, "Ek do din mein Marathi thodi seekh leta hai aadmi," which roughly translates to, "How can one learn Marathi in a day or two?"
The man then threatens the worker to thrash him. "Itna marega na abhi," he said. The worker then said,"Baat sahi hai, leki ek-do din mein aadmi nahi seekh payega, abhi time lagega."
The man then warned the worker that he will return in a fortnight to check if he learned Marathi or not. He also asked the worker to inform his boss.
In the entire footage the worker responds politely, explaining that learning a new language in a few days is unrealistic.
