Cyclone Biperjoy: IMD forecasts heavy rains for Mumbai, Konkan from June 5 to June 12
A cyclonic circulation has been observed in the southeast Arabian Sea, extending to the middle tropospheric levels. As a result, there is a high probability of a low-pressure area forming in the same region within the next 24 hours.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD)'s recent weather update on Monday, a cyclonic circulation has been observed in the southeast Arabian Sea, extending to the middle tropospheric levels. As a result, there is a high probability of a low-pressure area forming in the same region within the next 24 hours. The system is expected to track in a northward direction and strengthen into a depression over the southeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea over the following 48 hours. Should the low-pressure area consolidate and intensify into a cyclonic storm, it will be designated as Cyclone Biparjoy.
As per the current forecast, tentative dates for Cyclone Biparjoy are as follows:
June 03-07: A low-pressure area is expected to form, leading to light drizzles over Mumbai.
June 08-10: Heavy rains are anticipated over Maharashtra, with Pune and Mumbai likely to experience intense rainfall during this period.
June 11-12: Mumbai and the Konkan region are expected to receive very heavy rainfall. There is a possibility of flash floods occurring in the Konkan area during these dates.
Cyclone Biparjoy
The nomenclature of the cyclone has been assigned by Bangladesh. According to reports from Skymet, a private weather forecaster, the precise trajectory of the cyclone remains uncertain at present. Some models suggest a potential movement in a northward direction along the West Coast of India, while others indicate an initial northward path followed by a re-curvature towards Oman and Yemen in the north-northeast direction.
Skymet further stated that rainfall activities will notably intensify along the West Coast, spanning from Kerala to Maharashtra. The cyclone is expected to facilitate the timely arrival of the monsoon current in Mumbai. Sea conditions are anticipated to be rough to very rough along the coasts of Karnataka and Maharashtra from June 8 to 10, and over the Gujarat coast from June 9 to 12.
