Mumbai: A 42-year-old woman from Kalyan lost Rs 51.56 lakh in a stock market investment scam after being lured through a Facebook advertisement.
About The Case
In December, she clicked on an ad and was directed to a WhatsApp number of a so-called stock market analyst. The scammers added her to a WhatsApp group offering investment tips and convinced her to download a bogus trading app.

From December 31 to February 13, she transferred money to multiple accounts, believing she was earning profits. On February 14, her withdrawal requests were denied, and scammers demanded more money as "advance tax."
Realizing the fraud, she informed her family and approached the Thane police. A case has been registered under Section 66D of the IT Act, and police are investigating the provided mobile numbers, WhatsApp group, and transaction details. Police are tracing the scammers.
