Overall well-being is closely linked to good gut health, and acidity is a common digestive concern that can affect your quality of life if left unmanaged. Ayurveda offers holistic approaches to support digestive health. Acharya Balkrishnaji, co-founder of Patanjali Ayurved, shares insights into acidity, Ayurvedic home remedies that may help manage it, and Patanjali products that can support digestive health.
Know Your Acidity Triggers
When you experience acidity or acid reflux, stomach acid can flow back into the food pipe, causing heartburn or a burning sensation in the chest or upper abdomen, along with a sour taste in the mouth. Other symptoms may include sour burps, bloating, vomiting, indigestion, a feeling of heaviness after meals and mild nausea.
Common triggers include consuming excessive spicy, oily or fatty foods, skipping meals or eating at irregular times, certain medications, drinking too many carbonated beverages, lying down soon after eating, consuming excessive caffeine and experiencing high levels of stress. According to Ayurveda, acidity is associated with an aggravated Pitta dosha and an imbalance in digestive fire, or Agni.
Ayurvedic preparations and lifestyle practices may help support digestive health and manage acidity. Discover home remedies suggested by Acharya Balkrishnaji for managing acidity, along with Patanjali products that may be useful for supporting digestive well-being.
4 Ayurvedic Home Remedies to Ease Acidity
Coriander Seeds: Acharya Balkrishnaji suggests, “Take three to four grams of coriander seeds and boil them in two glasses of water. When it boils down to 200 ml, strain this decoction. Once it cools, add a little honey or rock sugar.” This preparation may help manage acidity. Patanjali Coriander Whole (200 Gms) can be used for this remedy.
Fennel Seeds: Munching on a spoonful of fennel seeds may help ease acidity-related bloating or a burning sensation. Alternatively, boil the seeds in water for five minutes, strain and drink the infusion warm. You can also soak the seeds overnight in a glass of water and drink the infused water in the morning on an empty stomach. Use Patanjali Fennel Whole (10 Gms) for these remedies.
Milk: A glass of milk may help soothe the stomach for some people experiencing acidity. You can also add a pinch of mulethi powder to warm milk as part of an Ayurvedic approach to digestive comfort. Adding a pinch of crushed cardamom to warm milk is another traditional option. Divya Mulethi Churna (100 Gms) can be added to milk and may support digestive comfort and help soothe the stomach.
Amla: Amla is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants and is traditionally used to support digestive health. Mix a tablespoon of amla juice with water and consume it as part of your daily routine. Alternatively, mix half a teaspoon of amla powder with honey and consume it before meals. Patanjali Amla Juice (500 Ml and 1 Ltr) offers a convenient way to include amla in your diet and may support digestive well-being.
Patanjali offers several products formulated to support digestive health and help manage acidity.
Divya Acidogrit Tablet (37 Gms) contains Ayurvedic ingredients such as Punarnava, Bhumi Amla, fennel and mulethi. It is formulated to support digestive comfort and may help manage concerns associated with acidity, including bloating and indigestion.
Another option is Divya Avipattikar Churna (100 gms), which is traditionally used to support digestion and manage acidity, heartburn, gas and bloating. It contains ingredients such as sonth, marich, harad, baheda, amla, clove and nishotha.
Acidity can be uncomfortable and disruptive. However, Ayurvedic practices, including home remedies suggested by Acharya Balkrishnaji, co-founder of Patanjali Ayurved, along with suitable Patanjali products, may help support digestive health and manage acidity as part of a holistic approach.
