Cheti Chand means Chaitra's Moon or Moon of Chaitra. Cheti Chand is derived from the Sindhi words "Cheti," which means the month of Chaitra, and Chand means moon. The Sindhi's New Year marks the birth anniversary of Jhulelal, also known as Uderolal or Dariyalal. Jhulelal is a revered deity among Sindhi Hindus in India as well as in Pakistan. He is considered an incarnation of Lord Varuna (Hindu water deity).

History of Jhulelal Jayanti
The Sindhi community views Lord Jhulelal as their protector and savior. Although the exact year of his birth is unknown, it is believed that he was born in the 10th century in Nasarpur, a city in Pakistan.
On this day, people pray to Lord Varuna along the banks of the river, seeking happiness and prosperity in their lives. According to legend, Lord Jhulelal is also worshiped because he saved the Sindhi community from the tyrant ruler Mirkhshah.
How is Jhulelal Jayanti celebrated?
On this day, devotees offer prayers to the River God and Jhulelal. People also get together and carry Jhulelal's idol on a decorated jhankis (palaquin). Devotees also prepare Sindhi meals like Sai Bhaji, Dal Pakwaan, and Sindhi Kadhi and share them with friends and family.
