A study published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships explored how sleeping habits impact relationship satisfaction. The research observed 143 heterosexual couples who had been together for an average of 13 years, aiming to understand how close sleeping positions influence emotional well-being and stress levels.

Couples who slept in close contact, whether cuddling, spooning, or simply facing each other, reported significantly lower stress and higher emotional security in their relationship. This closeness during sleep was especially beneficial for individuals with anxious attachment styles, helping them feel reassured and more secure in their bond.

The magic behind these benefits lies in oxytocin, often referred to as the "feel-good" or "bonding" hormone. Released during physical touch, especially cuddling, oxytocin promotes feelings of warmth, trust, and connection. Interestingly, the study also discovered that individual sleep styles didn’t matter.
