Court sentences minister Bacchu Kadu to 2 months imprisonment, imposes fine of Rs 25,000 for hiding property details in election affidavit

An Amravati court sentenced Maharashtra Minister of State for Education Bacchu Kadu to two months’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him on Friday, for hiding property details in his 2014 Assembly poll affidavit. The Chandur Bazar First Class Court delivered its order based on a complaint lodged against Kadu by BJP corporator Gopal Tiramre. Kadu said the court had already granted him bail and he would challenge the order in the upper court.

Reacting to the court ruling, Kadu said, “I had borrowed a loan for the house in Mumbai. While filing my poll affidavit along with my nomination papers in 2014, I had mentioned the loan borrowed from the bank but missed mentioning the flat. It was not a serious issue. However, I welcome today’s ruling,” he said.

“Before the 2014 assembly elections, the state government had formed a society of MLAs. At that time, the state government had provided a guarantee to the MLAs who were buying flats in that society. I had borrowed money from the bank for this purpose. I had mentioned the loan amount in the poll affidavit but failed to mention the flat. It was not done on purpose,” said Kadu.

The minister further said, the complaint from Chandur Bazar was lodged at the Asegaon police station although the incident had taken place in Achalpur. “We had taught a lesson to a police officer who had robbed a poor man of Rs 20,000. The concerned police officer hatched a plot and the complaint was registered in the Asegaon police station,” he added.
