Women’s Commission Hears 33 Cases, Closes 17; Workplace, Cyber Atrocities Flagged
The Madhya Pradesh State Commission for Women heard 33 cases involving harassment, dowry, cybercrime, domestic abuse and assault on Friday. Seventeen cases were closed. A workplace harassment complaint involving an alleged acid-attack threat and another involving alleged misuse of women’s photographs and AI-generated content on social media were also heard.

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Madhya Pradesh State Commission for Women held a hearing of a total 33 cases here on Friday. The hearing covered cases related to harassment of women, dowry harassment, cybercrime, murder, domestic abuse, sexual exploitation, family disputes, and physical assault, among other issues.
The commission’s chairperson Rekha Yadav, member Sadhana Sthapak, and secretary Suresh Tomar heard the complainants and the opposing parties. Of these, 17 cases were closed, while instructions for necessary action were issued regarding the remaining cases.
A serious case regarding workplace harassment also came to light during the hearing. The complainant submitted an application alleging that the workplace management made an inappropriate demand of her.
When she refused to comply, attempts were made to intimidate and silence her, including a serious threat of an acid attack.
According to the complainant, she was subsequently forcibly transferred, an allegedly false charge sheet was prepared against her, and her salary was withheld.
Furthermore, her internal complaint was closed with the remark that she could complain to any government institution, but nothing would come of it.
Recognising the gravity of the matter, the joint bench heard both parties and issued directives for appropriate action to be taken against the management.
A case related to cybercrime also surfaced during the hearing. The complainant stated that allegedly false and baseless news reports, photos, and videos concerning her were circulated via social media and online platforms of a news channel. According to the complaint, some of the circulated content was AI-generated.
The complainant stated that she had no personal dispute with the individual involved.
Her photographs and videos were circulated on social media after her images were misused with the intent to harass her, causing her mental distress and social embarrassment.
In this matter, both the complainant and the respondent appeared before the joint bench.
After hearing both parties, the bench issued directions for further action. During the hearing, the respondent admitted to the wrongdoing and agreed to publish a rebuttal and an apology regarding the published material within 10 days.
The Madhya Pradesh State Commission for Women is taking effective measures to provide necessary assistance and justice to women by hearing their grievances through public hearings.
The commission aims to ensure the necessary interventions to provide women with a safe, dignified, and violence-free environment
