Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The blood bank of Maharaja Yeshwantrao (MY) Hospital is under consideration for becoming the central ‘capital blood bank’ of Madhya Pradesh, under a new initiative of the Government of India.
Officials of the National Blood Transfusion Council (NBTC) inspected the facility on Tuesday and praised its advanced equipment and efficient operations. Director-general Krishna Kumar lauded Indore residents for their active participation in blood donation drives and highlighted the hospital’s role in supplying blood to nearby districts.
Meanwhile, officials of Blood Transfusion Councils from across the country attended a two-day meeting of the National Blood Transfusion Council (NBTC) in the city. The NBTC meeting, held annually, focused on expanding blood banks and improving blood availability across the country.
Officials from all states presented their budgets for 2025-26, discussing allocations needed to strengthen blood bank infrastructure. Krishna Kumar explained that the objective of the meeting was to maximize public benefit by addressing key needs in the blood bank sector.
He noted advancements in blood transfusion, with one donor’s blood now capable of helping up to three people. Different states host the meeting in rotation and this year, Madhya Pradesh hosted it. Monal Singh, assistant director of MP Voluntary Blood Donation Health Department, expressed pride in organizing the event. Superintendent Dr Ashok Yadav shared that a seminar on blood donation was also held in which over 100 officials participated.
