Burhanpur (Madhya Pradesh): The Special Surveillance Team (SST) stationed in Sheikhpura carried out a significant operation, on Tuesday, recovering a substantial amount of Rs 2.10 lakh in cash from a car.
The team promptly confiscated the money as the driver, identified as Anil, failed to provide a valid reason for carrying such a substantial sum. Anil, during questioning, revealed that he was en route from Maharashtra to Khandwa with the cash.
However, since the implementation of the model code of conduct, it is mandatory to possess appropriate documentation and valid reasons for carrying amounts exceeding Rs 50,000. As Anil lacked any supporting documents, the money was seized.
The operation was executed by a team comprising assistant sub-inspector Dilip Singh, Premlal Pal, constable Jai Malvi and others from the Dedtalai outpost.
The strict measures undertaken by SST teams in various areas, including Sheikhpura, serve as a crucial part of maintaining the integrity of the electoral process in Burhanpur.
Other areas with SST teams deployed include Asirgarh, Jainabad, Bakdi, Garhtal, Anturli Phata, Ichhapur and Loni.
