Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A domestic help fled with Rs 5 lakh in cash from the house of his employer, the owner of Mehidpurwala furniture showrooms, under Palasia police station limits, an official said on Friday. The incident occurred on April 15 when the house owner and his wife were away.
During the investigation, gross negligence on the part of the owner came to light, which cost him Rs 5 lakh. He neither got the police verification of the domestic help done, nor had his photograph or contact details.
The Aadhaar card provided by the domestic help was also found to be fake.
ACP Tushar Singh said that one Duraiya Raja, a resident of Telephone Nagar, lodged a complaint stating that she had recently hired a man named Lalit Dangi from Pratapgarh, Rajasthan. On the morning of April 15, Lalit came to her house for work.
She informed him that she needed to visit Choithram Colony with her husband Saifee Raja, the owner of Mehidpurwala furniture showrooms. She left the house at around 11 AM and when she returned at around 12:30 PM, Lalit was missing. On checking the rooms, she found the cupboard door broken and Rs 5 lakh in cash stolen.
During the investigation, it was also found that the CCTV cameras in the house were non-functional. The owner claimed that renovation work was ongoing, which was why the cameras were not working. The couple had hired the domestic help on the spot when he approached them for work, without verifying his identity or conducting a background check. Furthermore, the incident was not reported immediately,
it was reported a day later and the house was cleaned in the meantime, making it difficult for the police to collect forensic evidence from the scene. The Aadhaar card provided by the domestic help was also found to be fake during police verification.
The police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the BNS and further investigation is underway.
